A leaking shower pan can cause damage beneath the tile long before the full extent of the problem becomes visible. Signs may include water stains, damaged drywall or baseboards, loose tile, moisture outside the shower, or recurring leaks after the shower is used.

When a lower-section repair is appropriate, the process may include removing the shower door and lower rows of tile, exposing the existing shower pan, removing the failed waterproofing, preparing the area and installing a new hot mop waterproofing system. The repaired area can then be water tested before the shower is rebuilt and retiled.
